The plot / El argumento
Bryce Quinlan is a young half-human, half-Fae woman living in Lunathion alongside her best friend, Danika. Her daily life revolves around her job at Griffin Antiquities and the wild nights out she shares with Danika and the Pack of Devils.
However, on a night she goes out alone, everything shatters, and her life takes a 180° turn. After the tragic event, Bryce goes through the motions of survival rather than truly living, consumed by guilt and resentment. Years later, the city’s archangel interrupts her routine to order her to investigate who was behind everything that happened, pairing her with his personal assassin: Hunt Athalar, known as the Umbra Mortis.
As the investigation unfolds, they uncover secrets that put them in constant danger. And as the threat looms closer, the attraction between them grows increasingly intense and impossible to ignore.

The characters are written with incredible depth:
Bryce Quinlan
I am a die-hard Bryce fan. She is not the typical vulnerable human waiting to be saved: she is a strong woman, fully aware that being half-Fae makes her life harder, yet she remains unapologetically herself without backing down for anyone. She fights for what she believes in, sets boundaries, and makes it crystal clear that she won't tolerate any "alphaholes." Her determination is brilliant and so inspiring.
Hunt Athalar
Hunt, while fitting certain traits of the classic male archetype (and yes, he has his own alphahole moments), has so many nuances that make him super intriguing. His character arc, his past, his light and shadows… it’s impossible not to fall for him.
Other characters
Alongside them is a cast of side characters that shine just as bright. Danika, Bryce’s best friend, is my absolute favorite. And Ruhn… I think he still has so much more to bring to this series.

Bryce Quinlan
Me declaro fan absoluta de Bryce. No es la típica humana vulnerable que espera ser rescatada: es una mujer fuerte, consciente de que su condición de mestiza le complica la vida, pero aun así se muestra tal cual es, sin achantarse ante nadie. Lucha por lo que cree, pone límites y deja claro que no piensa tolerar a los alfamierdas. Su determinación es brillante y muy inspiradora.
Hunt Athalar
Hunt, aunque encaja en ciertos rasgos del arquetipo masculino (y sí, también tiene su punto alfamierdas), posee una cantidad de matices que lo hacen súper interesante. Su evolución, su pasado, sus luces y sombras… imposible no enamorarse de él.
Otros personajes
Junto a ellos aparece un elenco de secundarios que brillan con luz propia. Danika, la mejor amiga de Bryce, es mi favorita. Y Ruhn… creo que todavía tiene muchísimo que aportar en esta saga.
My opinion / Mi opinión
It’s hard to put into words everything this book made me feel. This isn’t my first time reading Sarah J. Maas, and I’m used to her fantasy worlds. However, this time we dive into an urban fantasy where everyday elements (cars, smartphones, security cameras) coexist with Fae, angels, demons, witches, and other creatures under the rule of an archangel. That contrast completely fascinated me.
The conflict tackles heavy themes: slavery, power, social hierarchy… I had a blast building my own detective board that kept growing as I read. As I mentioned before, I guessed almost nothing correctly, which is precisely what I loved about it: you can’t take anything for granted. Even when everything seems obvious, SJM always has an ace up her sleeve that pulls the rug right out from under you.
The first few chapters are heavy on worldbuilding and info-dumping, which can feel a bit overwhelming. Don’t get discouraged! The world is vast and complex, but once you start understanding how Lunathion works, every piece falls into place and the story just flows naturally.
It has been a thrilling, utterly addictive read that kept me glued to the pages from start to finish. It was torture trying to stick to the buddy read schedule because all I wanted to do was keep reading. I promise you, this is one of those books you won't be able to put down.

Me cuesta explicar todo lo que me ha hecho sentir este libro. No es la primera vez que leo a esta autora, y estoy acostumbrada a sus mundos fantásticos. Sin embargo, en esta ocasión nos adentramos en una fantasía urbana donde elementos cotidianos (coches, móviles, cámaras de vigilancia) conviven con faes, ángeles, demonios, brujas y otras criaturas bajo el mando de un arcángel. Ese contraste me ha fascinado.
El conflicto aborda temas muy potentes: esclavitud, poder, clases sociales… Me lo he pasado en grande construyendo mi panel de investigación, que iba creciendo a medida que avanzaba la lectura. Como ya os conté, no acerté casi nada, y eso es precisamente algo que me ha encantado: no puedes dar nada por sentado. Aunque todo parezca claro, la autora siempre tiene un as en la manga que hace que el suelo tiemble bajo tus pies.
Los primeros capítulos son introductorios y cargados de información, lo que puede resultar abrumador. No os desaniméis. El worldbuilding es amplio y complejo, pero cuando empiezas a comprender cómo funciona Lunathion, cada pieza encaja y la lectura fluye con naturalidad.
Ha sido una lectura apasionante y totalmente adictiva, de esas que te mantienen pegada a las páginas de principio a fin. Me costó horrores respetar las metas de la lectura conjunta porque solo quería seguir leyendo. Os aseguro que es una de esas lecturas adictivas que no podréis soltar.
